Air Fryer Chicken Breast Recipe

I love this method of cooking chicken breasts because it turns out so juicy, just like my Oven Baked Chicken Breast! I chose simple seasonings like garlic, oregano, paprika, and salt and pepper so that the chicken can go with milder-tasting food like Easy Orzo Pasta or more flavorful food like Asparagus Pasta Salad.

Ingredients Needed

  • Chicken – boneless skinless breasts, about 8 oz each.
  • Garlic Powder
  • Oregano
  • Paprika
  • Salt and Pepper

How To Make Air Fryer Chicken Breasts

The cook time is pretty short on these, it’s important to remember the rest time after!

Prepare Chicken

Use the flat side of a meat mallet or rolling pin or even a heavy pot to pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness.

Season Chicken

Brush the chicken breasts with the olive oil on both sides, then season the chicken with the salt, pepper, oregano, garlic powder, and paprika on both sides.

Cook Chicken

Place the chicken breast smooth side down in an even layer in the air fryer.

Cook at 400 ℉ for 6 minutes, then flip the chicken and continue cooking an additional 4 minutes until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165℉.

Rest Chicken

Remove chicken from air fryer and let rest on a plate, loosely covered with foil for about 5 minutes before enjoying.

Recipe Tips and Substitutions

  • Pounding the chicken helps to tenderize the meat, as well as evening out the thickness so the chicken cooks evenly.
  • Resting the chicken after cooking helps the meat proteins to relax and become tender again, as well as letting the juices distribute into the meat.
  • You can substitute oregano for basil or Italian seasoning for a different flavor profile.
  • A sprinkle of onion powder or red pepper flakes would add a little more flavor and spice!

Make Ahead and Storage

You can easily make this air fryer chicken ahead of time!

Refrigerate: Once cooked and cooled, transfer to an airtight container and store for up to 4 days.

Freeze: Once cooled, transfer to a freezer safe container and freeze for up to 3 months.

Yes! As long as it gets cooked to the temperature of 165℉, it is perfectly safe to cook raw chicken in an air fryer.

It depends on the size and thickness of the chicken. 2 chicken breasts 8 oz each will take about 10-15 minutes to cook at 400 ℉.

Do you have to spray chicken with oil in air fryer?

Yes, it is best to have a little oil on the chicken to prevent sticking.
