This quick and easy Honey Sesame Chicken Stir Fry is filled with juicy chicken breast strips, tender green beans and yellow peppers in a sweet and sticky sauce.
I’m pumped to be working with Land O’Lakes again this year, and even more so, to share this delicious dinner recipe featuring their wholesome butter spread!
Let’s dive right into this recipe. You’re going to love it…
How To Make Honey Sesame Chicken
- Start by sautéing some fresh green beans and yellow pepper strips in Land O Lakes® Butter with Olive Oil & Sea Salt in a hot skillet.
- Once the veggies are cooked, transfer them to a plate and start cooking up your chicken breast strips in a little more Land O Lakes® Butter with Olive Oil & Sea Salt and a touch of sesame oil.
- Remove the chicken from the skillet and pour in the sauce ingredients until it comes to a nice simmer.
- Thicken the sauce with a cornstarch slurry and then toss in the chicken and veggies.
That’s it! So super quick and easy, you’ll be wondering why you haven’t made this recipe sooner.
Best Veggies for Stir Fry
It’s no secret that I love a good stir fry. My favorite thing about a stir fry is that you can essentially use whatever veggies you have on hand, making it a great recipe for cleaning out the produce drawer in your fridge.
For this recipe I’m using fresh green beans and yellow pepper strips, but here are some more that would work great…
- Broccoli
- Cauliflower
- Sliced carrots
- Any color bell pepper strips
- Zucchini
- Asparagus
- Cabbage
- Spinach/Kale
PRO TIP: Start cooking the thickest/most dense veggies first (green beans, broccoli, carrots, etc), then add in the more delicate veggies (peppers, onions, zucchini, etc) once the thicker veggies have had time to become tender.
Why I Love Land O’Lakes
It’s true, I’m in love! Not only do I love the ingredient list for this spreadable Land O Lakes® Butter with Olive Oil & Sea Salt (sweet cream, olive oil, salt and sea salt), but I also love the company behind it.
Did you know that Land O’Lakes is a farmer-owned company? Back in 1921, 320 dairy farmers met in St. Paul, Minnesota to form the Minnesota Cooperative Creameries Association. Fast forward to today and there are now more than 1,700 dairy farmers, still working side-by-side to make Land O’Lakes products better and better.
I’ve even had the opportunity to meet a few of these farmers and they’re just some down-right awesome people. My love for this company runs deep.
Sesame Chicken Sauce Ingredients
I can’t get enough of this sweet and sticky sauce. I added a pinch of red pepper flakes to give it just a touch of heat at the end, but if you’ve got some picky palates, you can leave that pinch out.
- Garlic
- Ginger
- Chicken Broth
- Honey
- Sugar
- Rice Vinegar
- Soy Sauce
- Sesame Oil
- Red Pepper Flakes
- Cornstarch – to thicken the sauce
What To Serve with Sesame Chicken
- Egg Drop Soup
- Quick Fried Rice
- Crispy Chicken Egg Rolls
- Steamed White Rice
You’re going to love how quickly this dinner comes together! Can’t wait to hear what you think!
Honey Sesame Chicken Stir Fry
Ingredients
- 2 large boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size strips
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp Land O Lakes® Butter with Olive Oil & Sea Salt, divided
- 2 cups fresh green beans, trimmed
- 1 yellow bell pepper, cut into strips
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 2 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp minced ginger
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
For the Sauce:
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 3 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- pinch of red pepper flakes
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
Instructions
- Combine the chicken breast strips, garlic powder, salt, black pepper and 1 tbsp cornstarch in a bowl and stir to coat. Set aside.
- Heat a large non-stick pan or wok over medium heat and add 1 tbsp Land O Lakes® Butter with Olive Oil & Sea Salt. Toss in the green beans and stir fry, until beans are tender and slightly charred (about 5 minutes). Add in the yellow pepper strips and cook an additional 3 minutes, until tender. Transfer veggies to a plate and return wok to stove top.
- Add in another tablespoon of Land O Lakes® Butter with Olive Oil & Sea Salt along with 1 tsp sesame oil over medium heat. Cook the chicken breast strips on all sides, until browned and heated through. Transfer to the plate with the veggies and keep warm.
For the Sauce:
- Combine the chicken broth, honey, sugar, rice vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil and red pepper flakes (optional) in a small dish and whisk to combine.
- Return the wok to the stove top over medium heat and toss in the garlic and ginger and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
- Pour in the sauce mixture, reserving about 2 tbsp of the sauce. Heat in the wok, until flavors have blended and sauce is simmering, about 3 minutes.
- To the leftover 2 tbsp of sauce, add in the remaining 2 tbsp cornstarch and whisk to combine. Pour into the simmering sauce and stir until the sauce has thickened.
- Add the chicken and veggies back to the wok and stir to coat. Sprinkle the sesame seeds on top and serve hot.
- Enjoy!

Easy and delicious. I did omit that 1 tbsp of sugar and found the dish to be sweet enough without it. Added some chili crunch. Yumm. I will make this again.

Love it. So easy.

Great recipe!
I had three substitutions, the first substitution was using hot (spicy) honey. Don’t knock it until you try it.
The second substitution was the butter I didn’t have the Lakeland’s so I use regular butter with a few drizzles of olive oil and a few pinches of Himalayan salt.
The third substitution was instead of salt on the chicken I used Goya Adobo All Purpose Seasoning.
Let’s talk about Flavor the flavor: it tasted good.
However I like a little spice. Sooo I added more red chili flakes to my bowl (please use a pinch) and, added some white pepper.
Of course “me” being extra I added lastly but not lease..
~Accent Flavor Enhancer.~ To the entire pan.
Yes, I know.. but if you know, then you know .
Mrs Morton
Can I check. Is it 2 tablespoon of cornstarch in sauce ?
Shawn
Yes, it’s 2 tablespoons.

Suggested recipe improvements…. I think it would be helpful to type Tbls. with a capital T to make it easier
on the eyes to tell the difference between teaspoon and Tablespoon. In the “old” days, they always used
a capital T. Also, in the ingredients for the sauce, I think it would be helpful to separate the 2 Tablespoons
of cornstarch from the other ingredients so the cornstarch is not added at the beginning with the other ingredients. Helpful for a “bad”cook. We enjoyed this!!!!!

Made this tonight with what I had on hand, wine vinegar and used mushrooms with the beans. Absolutely delicious.
I didn’t put it on anything, just ate it as a meal its self with some for lunch tomorrow. I didn’t have the Land O Lakes butter, just used regular butter and a splash of oil and sea salt. Will be making this again.

This was AMAZING. It’s a new favorite at my house as my boyfriend told me I better keep making this recipe. Not a fan of peppers so I did leave those out. And it was pretty easy to make.
Anna
This was the BEST sesame chicken that I have EVER had!!! Used some white wine vinegar in place of the rice vinegar, as I didn’t have any on hand. Doubled the recipe and used red pepper, green pepper, zucchini and green beans. Will be craving this in the future. I just know it. I don’t normally leave reviews but I had to comment how delicious this was!

I’m always on the look out for healthy store fry recipes. This is the tastiest I have found!

Made it extra spicy with the red pepper flakes and loved it! Subbed shrimp because didn’t have chicken and the veggies I had on hand were broccoli, carrots and corn. Used the technique and all other ingradients from recipe. Once my green beans are ready in the garden will make again. Love how versitle the flavors are! The thick sauce goes well over some wide rice noodles.

Amazing such a taste meal used dark soy sauce instead of light and no complaints that’ll be on the weekly rota for sure
Shawn
Love that! So glad you enjoyed it!
Amy
Loved this recipe! Will definitely be in our weekly meal rotation! Also definitely sharing this. Thanks for the easy recipe!!
Carolyn
This was really good. I didn’t have Land o’lakes so just used vegetable oil. No other changes and it was delicious!
Shawn
I’m glad you enjoyed the recipe Carolyn!
Nedre
Great dinner again! This turned out so great! Everyone loved it.
Shawn
Yay! So glad to hear it Nedre!

I have been looking to add more recipes to my “go to” when I want a guaranteed good meal….this one fit the bill with my tough critics. 🙂 The only thing I will change when I make it again is cut the green beans and pepper into bite size pieces. With the strips and the long beans, it was very hard/sloppy to serve and not much fun to eat, having to cut the veggies. My family gave me the same request. Thanks for the recipe!
Barbara
Sorry – forgot to rate the recipe 5 stars!!
Shawn
Yay!! So glad you enjoyed the recipe!!

This dish was a hit!!! So good! Anyone thinking of making this you won’t be disappointed
Shawn
That’s fantastic to hear! So glad you enjoyed it Nancy!

Love it! Been looking for new recipes in the midst of the quarantine…this one is a keeper! I had to make a few subs for items I didn’t have. White wine vinegar for rice vinegar. Also subbed zucchini and mushrooms for bell pepper. I found the sauce sweet enough with just the honey so I omitted the sugar. My family all loved it!
Shawn
Woohoo! So glad you enjoyed the recipe, and also found a way to use what you had on hand!
Bonnie Lee
I just used my unsalted Land O Lakes Butter, a dash of EVOO and Sea salt and it came out perfect! Loved it!
Shawn
Sounds like a home run! So glad you enjoyed it Bonnie!
Silvana Baez
OMG, this seems to be soooo delicious!
Shawn
It’s really one of our new favorites! You’re going to love it!

Since I don’t have any Land O Lakes olive oil & sea salt, I will not make this recipe. It looks great but I don’t have this ingredient. I have regular Land O Lakes butter but the recipe definitely uses the olive oil butter. Too bad. Maryann Rimoin
Shawn
Hi Maryann, I understand it may be difficult to find certain ingredients right now, but the best part about being a home cook is being able to work with what you have! 🙂 Try using the regular Land O Lakes butter along with a dash of olive oil and you’ll be pleasantly surprised! Enjoy!
Donna
Would have really enjoyed this over rice but thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, the supermarket was out. It was very tasty.
Shawn
Sorry you couldn’t get the rice Donna, but I’m so glad you enjoyed the recipe!

This is one of our family favorites! Thanks for the recipe!
