I’m already collecting cute mugs to pass out this 2 Ingredient Spiced Mug Cake mix in for the holidays.
Just wait till you see how crazy easy this recipe is to make and share… plus FREE printables!!
Not only is this Spiced Mug Cake a really easy gift, but it’s also a recipe we use around here all. the. time.
It’s also super customizable!
All you need is a box of spice cake mix and a box of angle food cake mix!
Mix the two packages together and you’re done!
It’s crazy how easy that is, right?!
Now that you’re mix is ready, all you have to do is add water, microwave, and BOOM!
You have an instant warm cake to enjoy!
The logical thing to do is add a dollop of whip cream or cool whip followed by a sprinkle of cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice.
If you wanted a more pumpkin enriched cake, add a tablespoon of my Spiced Pumpkin Butter when you’re mixing and then microwave!
Speaking of microwave… remember my new kitchen remodel?
Well, I’m super in love with my GE Profile Series 2.2 cubic feet built-in microwave.
We opted for a built-in microwave since we moved the cooktop to the island. I decided it was best to do an under-the-counter microwave so my kids could have easy access to the microwave without having to climb on counter tops and potentially spill things.
I filled the drawer below with all of their favorite microwavable things and it’s served us well over the last few months. If you’re wondering what color the microwave is, it’s Slate! It’s a cool matte grey that sees no fingerprints. It’s modern and trendy and I have ALL of my appliances in it. You should definitely check it out!
The microwave is also super large and can easily fit a small casserole dish. I’m pretty sure our favorite button is the “add 30” one. With just one push it starts microwaving for 30 seconds. Brilliant!
And yes, it even comes with a preset 1 minute button – perfect for this cake!
The cake is light and fluffy and it’s seriously good. Especially considering it only took you 1.25 minutes to make.
I mean, c’mon! That’s just nuts!
And yes, you can definitely switch up the flavors of cake mix. I’ve made chocolate, vanilla, red velvet, funfetti… they all work!
It only makes sense to share this with others. So pick up a cute mug or 4 (I have 4 kids who have teachers…), whisk up the cake mix and put it in a cute treat bag. Attach the simple instructions/gift tag and maybe a cute little whisk (you can get 12 for like $6 bucks) and you’re golden! How easy is that?!
I keep this cake mix in my cupboard for whenever a craving hits.
I’ve also added pudding to it before to make a lava cake version.
The world is your oyster. Or at least a mug full of cake. Whatever.

You mentioned adding pudding for a lava cake. Did you just add a scoop of pudding on top of cake in mug or how did you do it
Shawn
Yes, I just scoop a tablespoon of the pudding and place it on top of the mug cake prior to microwaving. Then it gets warm and sinks to the bottom, making it a lava cake.

Made this recipe. VERY pronounced fake angel cake flavour. Tried it with both chocolate and vanilla, and the aftertaste was awful, when made according to the recipe. When adjusted to 3 parts chocolate or vanilla to 1 part angel cake, it wasn’t bad, but the flavour still left much to be desired. Would not recommend.

What a adorable idea! I have been in love with mug cakes lately, they are the best- and this is by far the simplest one I have seen yet!

What size mugs did you use for the mug cake? Darling gift idea!
Shawn
Anything around an 8 to 12 ounce mug should work perfectly! 🙂
