Creamy Slow Cooker Chicken
The best part about this easy recipe is that you simply toss all the ingredients in the slow cooker then let it all cook until the chicken is super tender.
Ingredients Needed
All you need is 5 basic ingredients in order to make this slow cooker chicken! Here’s the basic list of ingredients you’ll need in order to make this yummy chicken dinner recipe.
As always, you can find the full list in the printable recipe card below.
- Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
- Cream of Chicken Soup
- Italian Seasoning – use my homemade blend for the BEST taste!
- Garlic – fresh or jarred work great
- Cream Cheese – cut into cubes
How To Make It:
It really doesn’t get much easier than this recipe. My preteen can whip this dinner up for us when I’m busy at work and dinner is ready when it’s time!
PLACE CHICKEN IN SLOW COOKER Lay your chicken breast in the bottom of your slow cooker in an even layer. If you can’t fit them in an even layer, it’s ok if they stack a little.
WHISK SAUCE Combine the cream of chicken soup with the minced garlic and Italian seasoning. Add in a little salt and pepper and whisk it all together. Pour this sauce over the chicken breasts in the slow cooker.
TOP WITH CREAM CHEESE Arrange the cubed cream cheese over the top of the sauce and simply cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW heat for 6 hours.
SHRED CHICKEN Once the chicken has cooked in the sauce it’ll become nice and tender. Carefully remove the chicken and shred it with two forks.
I like to place the chicken in a large bowl to shred, making sure I get it all. You could also just leave it in the slow cooker and shred directly in the slow cooker to avoid getting another dish dirty.
Once the chicken is shredded, simply return it to the slow cooker and mix it in with the creamy sauce.
How To Serve Creamy Slow Cooker Chicken
This recipe is very similar to my quick Hawaiian Haystacks. In that recipe it calls for pre-cooked, shredded chicken. In this recipe, you’ll cook the chicken directly in the sauce and shred it.
For both recipes I like to serve the chicken sauce over steamed rice with a few of my favorite toppings.
You could also serve the chicken gravy over cooked egg noodles or by itself for a lower-carb meal.
Topping Ideas
Here are a few of the toppings I like to serve with this meal…
- Shredded Cheese
- Diced Tomatoes
- Sliced Green Onions
- Fried Chow Mein Noodles
- Sliced Olives
Make Ahead Instructions
One of the perks of cooking with a slow cooker is that you can prepare the dinner in the morning and enjoy it later in the evening. However, if you want to prepare this creamy shredded chicken even further in advance, you definitely can!
Simply cook the recipe according to instructions below, then let cool completely. Place the shredded chicken in a zip-close bag and lay flat to freeze.
PRO TIP: Do not lay bags of food in the freezer on top of each other. Freeze separately, then once frozen you can stack them.
You can refrigerate creamy chicken for up to 5 days. Reheat in the crock pot or in a large pot over medium-low heat.
Freeze creamy chicken for up to 4 months. *Defrost completely in the fridge before reheating.

Sounded good until I saw the canned soup. I try to avoid ultra processed foods, full of chemicals and other ingredients. Any ideas how to make a flavorful sauce? Perhaps my chicken stock with some herbs, and a cornstarch slurry st the end? I love convenience but not at the price of health.

Once again, another brilliant offering from my favorite blogger! I love this recipe and it is going in my rotation!

If I use chicken tenders, would the cook time be reduced?

Does this have to be cooked in a slow cooker? Is there an alternate method of cooking?

Wanting to try this recipe. Does it make a sauce that’s really thick or is it more like a chicken gravy?

Yum yum. I just made this tonight. So delicious and simple. I chopped the chicken instead of shredding it and it worked well. My family loved it and the house smelled amazing while it was cooking. Thank you for such a great recipe.

I’m so glad you enjoyed it!

Did you chop the chicken at the start or end of cooking?
