This quick and easy Creamy Horseradish Sauce Recipe is the perfect condiment to compliment prime rib, steak or roast beef!
Horseradish Sauce is one of my favorite condiments to serve with Prime Rib around the holidays. It’s creamy, tangy and has the perfect amount of spice to brighten up your dish.
What Is Horseradish?
Horseradish is a root vegetable that’s used as a spice and prepared as a condiment. For this recipe I’m using prepared horseradish, which comes in a jar and can be found in the mustard aisle of your grocery store.
There are typically different kinds of prepared horseradish – mild, hot, extra hot, etc. Plain horseradish is pretty strong, so if you’re not familiar with the flavor, start out with the mild version and increase in intensity from there.
Ingredients Needed For Horseradish Sauce:
- Prepared Horseradish
- Sour Cream
- Mayo
- Dijon Mustard
- Salt
- Pepper
- Freshly chopped parsley or chives
How to Make Creamy Horseradish Sauce:
This recipe could not be simpler.
- Just combine all the ingredients in a bowl and stir together!
- Store covered in the fridge until ready to serve.
What Do You Eat with Horseradish Sauce?
This sauce is smooth and creamy with the perfect punch of heat from the horseradish. Here are some great ways to utilize this delicious condiment:
- Prime Rib
- Roast Beef
- The Best Steaks Ever
- Beef Tenderloin
- Roasted Potatoes
- Use it in place of the sour cream in my Deviled Eggs
My husband loves to eat horseradish plain, which is very strong (almost too strong if you ask me), so that’s why I like to mix it with the sour cream and mayo to make the flavor a little more subtle, without blowing you away.
I’m sure you’re going to love this dip as much as we do!

Forgot to mention that the heavy cream is whipped before adding to the sauce.

This sauce odd much like the delicious sauce served at the Sonesta Hotel “[prime] Rib Room”except for that we added some unsweetened whipped cream to it. what do you think?

Looks fantastic! How long will this last?

Also very good with ham, brisket, burgers. I do like a little more zip, so I just increase the horseradish to my liking. My Dad grew horseradish once and my parents, uncle and Grandmas canned it….Holy cow, I thought the roof of the house was going to blow off! Every since, commercial horseradishes seem bland to me.

can you substitute Greek yogurt for the mayo?
Shawn
That could work, but it’ll give the sauce more tang.

My guests all RAVED about how deliciously perfect this sauce was! Someone even said, “I used to think good tenderloin doesn’t need sauce, but now I think every tenderloin needs THIS sauce. Thank you.

I’m going to use the recipe for this year’s Christmas prime rib; we also do turkey and ham plus all the trimmings. I’ve made horseradish sauce before usually with sour cream and cream cheese but this recipe sounds great too!

We made our first (ever) beef tenderloin following your recipe for Christmas Eve dinner (last night). Perfect!

I’m soooo glad you enjoyed it Holly! And the sauce too! We love this sauce with tenderloin or prime rib!
