This light and fluffy frosting is only 5 ingredients yet tastes so rich and creamy!
A few months back my sister in law made this gorgeous chocolate layer cake for my mother in law’s birthday. It was two layers of chocolate cake filled with a layer of dulce de leche and then frosted with this delicious chocolate cream cheese frosting. Not only was the cake gorgeous, but it also tasted AMAZING!
Needless to say, the cake was gone in a flash and I begged my sister in law to share all her secrets. Luckily she’s a very nice sister in law and was more than willing to share this goodness with us!
I’m going to post the full recipe for the cake next week, but for now, I figured this frosting could use it’s own special time in the spotlight.
The cream cheese adds a delightful yet subtle tang to the lightly sweetened frosting. Since there is cream cheese in this frosting you’ll want to keep the finished cake or cupcakes in the refrigerator until they are ready to be served.

Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting
This light and fluffy chocolate cream cheese frosting is perfect for topping cupcakes or layer cakes!
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- 4 oz cream cheese, cold
- 1 cup butter, room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- ¾ cup cocoa powder
- Cream the butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy then add in vanilla.
- Add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder in ½ cup intervals, mixing between each addition until the frosting is light and fluffy and fully combined.
Frosting should be kept in the fridge once used.
