Ingredients Needed for Onion Chip Dip

Here’s what you’ll need in order to mix up this super simple, pool-side chip dip. As always, you can find the printable recipe located in the recipe card below.

The best thing about this recipe is that with the added cottage cheese, it boosts the protein content and give it a delicious, dip-able texture.

How To Make Onion Soup Mix Chip Dip

So here’s the deal with this easy chip dip. There is a recipe for chip dip on the back of the soup mix package that calls for sour cream and the soup mix.

I find that only using sour cream creates a dip that is just too thick for dipping.

When I mixed in cottage cheese with the sour cream, it created the perfect, scoop-able creamy dip.

COMBINE ALL INGREDIENTS

Start by combining all the ingredients into a bowl and stir it all together until it’s evenly combined.

That’s it!

I’m not exaggerating when I say that we eat this dip literally every time we go camping.

It’s my go-to when company comes over to watch the big game, during movie night, and puzzle night too!

What To Serve with Onion Chip Dip

Stating the obvious here, but CHIPS should definitely be served with this chip dip.

Specifically, the ruffled potato chips. Mmm… salty chip goodness!

Here are some other vessels for transporting this glorious dip from bowl to mouth…

  • Celery Sticks
  • Carrot Sticks
  • Mini Peppers or sliced peppers
  • Cucumber slices
  • Sliced raw zucchini

Do I Have To Use Cottage Cheese?

Trust me on this one, cottage cheese adds something extra special to this dip. Similar to how the cottage cheese is added to my Orange Fluff Salad… WOW!

You can use low fat, full fat, small curd, large curd, it really doesn’t matter.

Personally, my go-to combo is: low fat, small curd cottage cheese with full fat sour cream.

  1. I wonder if you could blend cottage cheese in a blender first? My family won’t eat cottage cheese, and if the dip even vaguely resembles cottage cheese, nobody will eat it!

Ok, but a pint or a half pint of each? I’m thinking that a whole envelope of soup mix would go with a full pint (both ingredients), but it may be 1 pint of each, then a full envelope of soup mix? Thx!

I stopped making the original version a long time ago because the flavor just got old to me after so many times of making it. What a terrific idea of adding the cottage cheese. I never would’ve thought of that myself. A simple, slight flavor adjustment.
