Weekly Budget Challenge

Staying on a budget is important for a single income family. It’s important for any family for that matter.
My weekly food budget: $100.00
I recommend sitting down once a week to plan out your meals for the following week. Sounds like a difficult job, {and it can be difficult at times} but it’s worth it. While you’re writing out your menu, think about items you already have in your pantry or fridge that you could use.
Pull all your recipes for your meals and make a list of all the ingredients you’ll need for the week. Add any other staple items {milk, eggs, cereal, bread, etc.} that you’re running low on. Going to the store once a week is the best way to stick to your budget!

Keep your eye out for any proteins {beef, chicken, turkey} that go on sale, and buy in bulk. Stock up your freezer, so you’re prepared for many meals to come. Also try to plan meals according to what’s fresh and in-season {those items are usually on sale}.

Finally, I was asked about breakfast and lunch…why not plan for these meals?

I usually “mentally” plan for these meals. I always keep an ample supply of cereal, eggs, and pancake mix on hand for breakfasts. We always buy fresh fruit that we eat during the day for snacks. My pantry is full of the necessary ingredients for sandwiches, soups, and salads for lunch time. And we always end up with more leftovers than we know what to do with, so those get eaten during lunch as well.

If you’re dying to know the recipe to anything on my dinner menu {located on the top left} let me know and I will be sure to post it for you!  Feel free to jot down your Menu in the comments section! The more ideas out there, the easier it is to plan!
