Mornings are a BUSY around here! That’s why I’m loving this Orange Banana Smoothie! It’s a quick, protein-packed breakfast that I can easily whip up and take on the go!
Tell me you remember the days of cruising the mall as a kid, spending all your change on an Orange Julius.
I would sip that cool and refreshing drink while window shopping (’cause hey, I just spent all my baby sitting money on that smoothie).
A few years ago my sister in law showed me her trick for making her own Orange Julius – inspired smoothie at home – orange juice concentrate! I took her fantastic drink one step further and fueled it with Burt’s Bees™ Protein +Heathly Radiance protein powder!
This stuff is amazing!
It’s a plant-based protein (made with organic pea protein), that is also non-GMO, gluten free, dairy free and soy free!
There are 15 grams of plant-based protein per serving, plus it counts as 3 1/2 servings of fruits and veggies* with 25% of the daily values of 12 essential vitamins**! With no artificial sweeteners or flavors, this protein powder is a great way to sneak a little protein into my morning routine!
It comes in chocolate and vanilla flavors. For this recipe I used the vanilla flavor, which really gave the smoothie that classic creamy flavor you’re familiar with!
I like to keep a mason jar filled with the orange juice concentrate in the fridge. It makes it easier to pour into my smoothies.
Make sure you get the 100% juice!
All you have to do is add a frozen banana (fresh works too when you’re in a pinch), some ice cubes, orange juice concentrate, a little almond milk and the Burt’s Bees Vanilla Protein Powder.
Give it all a whirl in the blender and you’re ready to be transported back to your teenybopper days of causing the mall. Only this time it’s filled with lots of good stuff!
This is one drink you won’t want to share!

I have been looking for an Orange Julius recipe using the vanilla protein powder and your recipe is the only one I could find. I think adding a banana made it taste better. I did not have almond milk and used organic regular milk. I have coconut milk. Do you think coconut milk would be a good substitute for the almond milk?
Shani
Where can you buy this protion powder?
Shawn
Hi Shani, The availability varies by your location, so your best bet would be to check on line. Also, you can substitute any good plant based protein powder if you need to. Hope this helps!
Angela
Is the orange juice concentrate what you’d buy in a frozen cylinder? Or a type of fresh juice?
Shawn
Yes! You’ll find it in the freezer section.

Orange Julius is one of my favorite drink too. I remember back in the days when me and my mom cannot leave the mall without buying Orange Julius. It was just so refreshing and irrisistible. I’m glad that you created an easy-to-do recipe of an orange banana smoothie. Now I can just make one at home for me and my kids. I’m actually planning to prepare some for my mom together with pancakes for a quality bonding time.
