Did you know there is a fast and simple two ingredient buttermilk substitute?
All you need is milk and white vinegar {or lemon juice if you don’t have vinegar}.
Simply pour 1 tablespoon of white vinegar into a measuring cup…
Pour your milk up to the 1 cup line.
Let sit for 5 minutes….
And Voila! Buttermilk substitute!
Use how ever much buttermilk your recipe calls for.
No more last minute trips to the grocery store for buttermilk.
How to Make a Buttermilk Substitute
Instructions
- In a measuring glass, add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar {or lemon juice}.
- Fill with milk UP TO the 1 cup measuring line. Let sit for 5 minutes.
- Use as needed for recipe.

I do this all the time, too! I almost always use lemon juice, because the bottle is quick to grab alongside the milk. 🙂 One less thing to buy at the grocery store!
