Chocolate Molten Lava Mug Cake is a 3 ingredient cake that’s made in just one minute!
Chocolate Molten Lava Mug Cake is versatile with different flavor combinations! Just wait till you try this, you’ll be making them non-stop!
Remember when I showed you how to make White Chocolate Lemon Lava Cake or this Chocolate Molten Lava Cake? I also showed you how easy it was to make your own personalized chocolate cake in just 1 minute…
Well ladies and gents, you guessed it, I made lava cake that much easier to make.
To start off, {if you haven’t already} you’ll need to make that magical cake mix. Super, super, super simple…just two ingredients…
Grab your mug.
Grab two mugs…you’ll want seconds…
Add 3 tablespoons of the mix, then 2 tablespoons of water…
Then, we’ll add the magic.
Chocolate pudding snacks.
Funny story… One time I sent my husband to the grocery store to grab some groceries for me. He came back with 40 pudding snacks.
Yes, 40!
You see, they were “on sale” for 10 packs for $10. He, bless his heart, assumed you must buy all 10, to get the incredible deal. He is what ad marketers dream of. Needless to say, I had pudding snacks for days and put them to good use with this easy recipe!
I just used a regular chocolate pudding snack, but I have made this with a sugar-free pudding snack, and it’s just as awesome!
Just drop in half of the pudding snack. But don’t stir it!
Toss it in the microwave for just 1 minute…
Pull it out… careful… it’s hot! You can enjoy it straight out of the mug! A scoop of vanilla ice cream on top is always a welcome addition!
Here are some more Mug Cake flavor varieties you can try:
- Butterscotch pudding with chocolate cake mix
- Vanilla pudding with white cake mix
- Lemon pudding with lemon cake mix
- Vanilla pudding with funfetti cake mix
Heaven. In. A. Mug.
You’re going to really love this one!

Look fantastic! I’m gonna try to make one !!
Oh my gosh! This sounds delicious! I must try these with my foods students!
Do you have a gluten free version of this recipe? My grandma used to make this for me and my sister’s when we were young girls, but since I have celiac disease I’m missing out on childhood treats that I would love to share with my son
Instead of mixing in a bowl, pour the cake mix and the angel cake mix into a gallon Ziploc bag and shake it. I throw mine into the freezer till I need some. I’m going to have to try the pudding trick. Thanks.
I am looking for your recipes for fried bananas and candied pecans. Please help me. Thanks
I’m looking for the fried banana. Also, candied pecans. I think they were yours. Thanks.
I call this 3-2-1 cake and use many different flavored cake mixes with the angel food cake… I send it to all the kids going to college in their favorite flavor! They get the mix, a mug, a measuring spoon, and a note to remind them to get some vegetable spray for the cup! ( can’t send that through usps …. I like the idea of pudding! Thanks for idea!
Perfect! I love that you send it off with the college kids! 🙂
Amazing!!! Thank you!!
Late comment but I just grabbed the ingredient to make this. I think I’ll explode when I try it.
I am a novice at baking and cooking so this might be a really dumb question, sorry in advance! But could you switch up the cake mixes? Like use a spice cake mix (and the Angel Food) and a vanilla pudding or a lemon and lemon, etc.?? This truly is genius! I can’t wait to try it. But I would really be interested if I could switch up the cake mix. Just not that fond of chocolate. Thanks!
Hi Pamela! I haven’t tried it with another type of cake mix, but I don’t see why it would work. In fact I think those flavor combinations sound awesome! Go for it! Let me know how it turns out! 🙂
OMG, you’re a genius!
Haha! I know right?! It’s a miracle dessert. 🙂
Just a quick question? How far in advance can this be made? I want to do this and give as employee gifts for my husband’s office.
Hi Renee- The mix can be made ahead of time and stored in an air tight container (mason jars are cute) for up to 2 months! Pair the jar with a couple of pudding snacks and include the directions and you’ll have one awesome gift! I am doing that for Teacher gifts this year! 🙂
I love that … Heaving in a Mug 🙂
I used to make cakes in mugs when I was a little girl, but nobody wanted to eat them. I can’t wait to try this!!
Oh my…..this could be very very dangerous!
But it’s actually not bad at all! Since it’s a cake made with Angel Food Cake, it uses egg whites in the mix, and it’s just water…and you can use sugar-free pudding too. (Don’t mind me, I am just justifying the fact that I have eaten one daily for the past two weeks)
Pudding snacks and ice cream?! Love this! I made a mug cake this morning (to post tomorrow)…great minds think alike!
Oh very nice! I can’t wait to check it out!!
what an awesome idea! and i love that your fella bought 40 pudding snacks – i used to think the same thing (that you had to buy the full amount to get the sale price) until my husband clarified for me last year. so embarrassing!
Just tell him you were trying to stock up in case of a natural disaster! You’ll look smart, and prepared!
That is something my husband would have done too.very literal.
This is awesome! I can’t wait to make it!
