Oh boy do I have a treat for you today! Dorothy, {the queen of all things sweet} from over at Crazy for Crust is treating us to her brilliance. I am a huge HUGE fan of her blog. She has loads of treats that would make a dentist cringe, and kids jump for joy. I imagine her house as being Candy Land in real life. Yuuuuuummmm!!
She graciously accepted my invitation to guest post today, and I think your kids will love what she created!
Hi! I’m Dorothy from Crazy for Crust. Where I’m crazy in life…and about crust! I make lots of crazy desserts and then I share them…with a slice of my life thrown in.
I was so excited when Shawn asked me to guest post this week. One, because she lives in Arizona, which I have a soft spot for. And two, because she makes things like these Marshmallow Cream Filled S’mores. Based on that alone, I think we’ll be good friends.
I must admit, when she first asked me to be part of a kids’ lunch series I was a little perplexed. I mean, I’m addicted to desserts. {Real food, what’s that?} But it was great, actually. It got me out of my box and the ideas started to flow!
Now, if you read my blog, you’ll already understand that my kid (Jordan, girl, 7) and I are super-picky. I mean, she’s really picky. Can you believe she’s never had a hamburger? And she doesn’t like mac ‘n cheese unless it’s eaten at Ikea?
Needless to say, lunch poses a problem.
During the year, she has a small rotation of items I give her for lunch: peanut butter crackers, peanut butter sandwich, salami and a string cheese, salami sandwich. All year long, week in and week out, that’s what she eats.
In the summer it gets more fun. She’s home and she wants chicken nuggets. Every. Day. So not okay.
I’m trying to get her to branch out and recently she’s started eating deli turkey once in a blue moon. She is in love with monkey bread, the sweet version (of course, who isn’t?), so I thought this would be the perfect way to get her to eat more food that is not salami.
This is probably the easiest thing ever. You just start out with Grands! biscuits. Flatten them a little, add a slice of turkey, and roll. Cut into three wedges and stuff them in a muffin tin. I topped mine with cheese, because that’s the only way she’ll eat anything. {No joke. Cheese goes on everything in my house.}
Super simple. And the best thing about these is they are good warm, cold, or room temp. Perfect for picnic days or outings that would normally result in a McDonald’s drive-thru. Freeze some, pop them in your cooler, and head to the zoo. Lunch is done!
Now, once lunch is over, you might need a little sweet treat. I mean, it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t push them on you, right? May I suggest these?

Turkey & Cheese Monkey Bread Muffins {Crazy for Crust}
Ingredients
- 1 can Grands! Biscuits, 8
- 8 slices deli turkey

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 8 holes of a muffin tin with cooking spray.
- Separate your biscuits. Flatten each one with the palm of your hand. Place one slice of turkey on each flattened biscuit (you may need to fold the turkey to make it fit.) Roll up the biscuit and press to seal. Cut in three equal sized pieces.
- Place three pieces of biscuit in each muffin hole. Top with grated cheese. Bake 15-18 minutes until golden. Cool slightly before eating. (Once cool, you can store for later in the refrigerator or even freeze them.)

Thanks for having me today Shawn! It was super fun. Maybe I’ll have to start making more savory food.
