Creamy Garlic Parmesan Sauce

Once the chicken is cooked, you’ll want to wipe out the skillet until it’s clean.

Normally I would suggest NOT doing this because the browned bits on the bottom will add loads of flavor to our sauce, but I really wanted to make sure this creamy garlic parmesan sauce was white and not a muddy brown color. After multiple times testing this recipe, I came to the conclusion that I just needed to clean the pan before making the sauce. The results are a deliciously creamy and buttery sauce that’s gorgeous and still FULL of garlic flavor.

That being said, if you wanted to skip the step of cleaning out the pan, you definitely can. Your sauce will just not be the same color as shown here.

Creamy Garlic Chicken Recipe is filled with a creamy parmesan sauce, spinach and ready in less than 30 minutes!

Why Use Butter with Canola Oil?

First of all, I love the convenience of the Land O Lakes® tub butter products. I can quickly scoop out what I need, pop the lid back on and store it in the fridge. It makes cooking easy!

Land O Lakes® Butter with Canola Oil is smooth and creamy and made with just 3 simple ingredients; sweet cream, canola oil and salt. While the ingredient list is short, the flavor is BIG. Really, you can’t go wrong with any of their tub butter products.

Instructions

  • Season chicken with salt, pepper and garlic powder all over. Melt 1 tbsp Land O Lakes® Butter with Canola Oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear chicken in the hot pan, for 5 minutes on each side, until cooked through. Once cooked, remove from the pan and set aside. Wipe out pan and return to stove top.

  • Add the parmesan cheese and allow sauce to gently simmer for a minute or so until the cheese melts and sauce thickens, stir in spinach until wilted.
  • Add the chicken back into the pan, add a squeeze of lemon juice and red pepper flakes. Serve alone, over hot noodles, or a bed of rice if desired. Enjoy!

  1. Unfortunately due to use of Canola oil and some disgusting thing called “cooking wine” I find it difficult to give this receipt more than 2 stars. If health ingrediencies were use it would be a different story.

    1. Hey Mike, feel free to substitute the butter with canola oil for a butter you prefer. And I don’t drink, so the cooking wine is something that I can keep on hand. But again, feel free to swap with regular wine to suit your taste. Hope you give this recipe a try and see how delicious it is! 🙂

This was tonight’s dinner. I made the recipe exactly as written (except I don’t measure cheese and we love garlic) and served over fettuccine. Fantastic recipe – the splash of lemon and red chili flakes sent the dish over the top. I’ll be making this dish (probably add mushrooms) for many years to come. Excited to make it again! Thanks Shawn!

Hello, and thank you for sharing such a wonderful, and quick recipe. I used 3 tbsp of butter to brown the chicken breasts, and used the Ripple plant-based half-and-half creamer, and both Parmesan and Mozzarella shredded cheeses served over rice. So delicious, and will definitely make again.

  4. I made this recipe and used regular red wine sunce didn’t have any white and it was delicious. I diced my chicken and served over angel hair pasta.
    Thanjs

  5. Hi, I would love to make this meal for my family, but and I would like to know of the type of white wine would you recommend? We’re really not wine drinkers, but My boyfriend and I are up to trying new dishes and I came across yours that looks delicious and from the 5 star reviews, it has to be.

    1. I’m not a wine drinker either. I would recommend either just the white cooking wine or a dry white wine. Hope that helps!

    1. I would only use about 1/3 cup of the frozen spinach in place of the 2 handfuls of fresh. The frozen spinach will most likely turn your cream sauce green, but it should still taste great. 🙂

    2. 5 stars
Hey – this turned out well! The spinach was in smaller pieces, and it didn’t turn the sauce green! I made with chicken tenders and served over a bed of penne. I took a picture of it and saved it to pinterest. I have 3 picky little ones (7, 3 and 1) and a picky 40 yr old LOL. (They get it from their dad.) We all loved it! Thanks for sharing!

Made this tonight and the family LOVED it! The best part was how quick it was to make. We used angel hair pasta and laced the sauce through it before serving. Delicious and can’t wait to make again. Thank you!

    1. It will make your sauce thinner, but it could work. I would use a whole milk if possible.

Hi. I can’t get a clear answer on whether heavy cream and heavy whipping cream are the same or different everything online tells you something different can anyone clarify the only thing we can find in our area due to stocking being low from everything happening is heavy whipping cream. will that work? Thanks. We hope to make it by this weekend

    2. Sorry I didn’t get to this sooner, we were out of town camping all weekend. Heavy cream or heavy whipping cream will both work. The difference is in their fat content, both of which are plenty for this recipe. Hope that helps!

  7. Could I leave the spinach out by any chance? I would love to have it in there, but I’m pretty sure my kids wont eat this with the spinach. I’ll be lucky if I can get them to try it without it!

    1. I leave the spinach out because my boyfriend doesn’t care for it. Still very tasty!

    2. 5 stars
This was amazing! My 2yr old son is a picky eater and loved helping me cook it and he said it was very yummy.

    1. If you’re planning on not using the Land O Lakes butter, then you’ll want to use 3 tbsp butter as well as just a tsp of oil. Enjoy!

  8. Nice recipe. I left the browned chicken bits on the bottom of the pan and used vegetable stock instead of Wine. Just good.

    1. Not a dumb question! They are essentially the same thing. You’ll just want to use a heavy cream that has at least 36% milk fat.

  9. Looks delish! Trying to figure out how you got to 8.6 carbs per serving. It looks very Keto friendly- were you including carbs from noodles by chance? Thx!

    1. Hey Deb! I took a look at the ingredients list and the squeeze of lemon juice was calculated wrong, so that’s where the higher carb count was coming from. I’ve adjusted it now and it’s more accurate. Apparently there are carbs in garlic, heavy cream and spinach… who knew?! So that’s where the majority of the carbs are coming from for the rest of the recipe. 🙂

  10. Made this with sliced fresh mushrooms instead of spinach Very tasty and refreshing with the lemon over the mushrooms Wil do it again with spinach Served with littlee baked potatoes. Easy and delish.

  11. What should we do to freeze this to make for later? Trying to save time during the week for frozen meals.

    1. Hi Tiffany, That’s awesome that you are trying to save time with freezer meals! However, this recipe goes together so quickly that thawing time would be longer than cooking time. That said, if you want to try freezing, you could sear the chicken breasts, wrap well and pop them in the freezer. When you are ready to continue, thaw them and continue with the cooking instructions. Another time saver would be to pre-measure ingredients so they are handy when needed. Hope this helps!

  12. By chicken breast halves do you mean chicken breasts cut in half lengthwise to make them thinner?

    1. Hi Yvonne, Substituting chicken broth for the white wine will work fine. Hope this helps!

  13. I threw some halved grape tomatoes into the pan after the chicken was done then removed and set aside with the chicken to add back with the chicken. Added some bulk and freshness and tasted great!

    1. Your total weight on 4 chicken breasts should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.5 pounds. Hope this helps!

    2. I hope this is an extreme typo and you mean 15 OUNCES in total weight of chicken. Am I correct?

    3. Hi Paula, the comment says 1.5 pounds (which is 24 ounces). Hope that clarifies it for you!
