This Creamy Garlic Chicken Recipe with spinach in a creamy parmesan cheese sauce is delicious over hot pasta.
I’ve teamed up with Land O’Lakes to create this super easy, weeknight dinner that’s buttery, creamy and downright delicious!
Creamy Garlic Chicken Recipe
- Start by seasoning your chicken breasts with salt, pepper and garlic powder.
- Melt some Land O Lakes® Spreadable Butter with Canola Oil in a hot skillet.
- Sear the chicken on both sides and remove to a plate to keep warm.
Creamy Garlic Parmesan Sauce
Once the chicken is cooked, you’ll want to wipe out the skillet until it’s clean.
Normally I would suggest NOT doing this because the browned bits on the bottom will add loads of flavor to our sauce, but I really wanted to make sure this creamy garlic parmesan sauce was white and not a muddy brown color. After multiple times testing this recipe, I came to the conclusion that I just needed to clean the pan before making the sauce. The results are a deliciously creamy and buttery sauce that’s gorgeous and still FULL of garlic flavor.
That being said, if you wanted to skip the step of cleaning out the pan, you definitely can. Your sauce will just not be the same color as shown here.
Why Use Butter with Canola Oil?
First of all, I love the convenience of the Land O Lakes® tub butter products. I can quickly scoop out what I need, pop the lid back on and store it in the fridge. It makes cooking easy!

We serve this Creamy Garlic Chicken Recipe over a bed of hot noodles, but you can also use cauliflower rice for a low-carb dinner!

Creamy Garlic Chicken Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 chicken breast halves
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 3 tbsp Land O Lakes® Butter with Canola Oil; divided
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- ¼ cup white cooking wine
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ¼ cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
- 2 handfuls fresh baby spinach, roughly chopped
- Pinch red pepper flakes
- Squeeze of fresh lemon juice
Instructions
- Season chicken with salt, pepper and garlic powder all over. Melt 1 tbsp Land O Lakes® Butter with Canola Oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear chicken in the hot pan, for 5 minutes on each side, until cooked through. Once cooked, remove from the pan and set aside. Wipe out pan and return to stove top.
- Melt 2 tbsp butter with canola oil in the same skillet. Sauté garlic until fragrant (about 30 seconds). Pour in the wine; allow to reduce to half.
- Reduce heat to low-medium heat, add the cream and bring to a gentle simmer, while stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Add the parmesan cheese and allow sauce to gently simmer for a minute or so until the cheese melts and sauce thickens, stir in spinach until wilted.
- Add the chicken back into the pan, add a squeeze of lemon juice and red pepper flakes. Serve alone, over hot noodles, or a bed of rice if desired. Enjoy!

Unfortunately due to use of Canola oil and some disgusting thing called “cooking wine” I find it difficult to give this receipt more than 2 stars. If health ingrediencies were use it would be a different story.

Hey Mike, feel free to substitute the butter with canola oil for a butter you prefer. And I don’t drink, so the cooking wine is something that I can keep on hand. But again, feel free to swap with regular wine to suit your taste. Hope you give this recipe a try and see how delicious it is! 🙂

This was tonight’s dinner. I made the recipe exactly as written (except I don’t measure cheese and we love garlic) and served over fettuccine. Hi, I would love to make this meal for my family, but and I would like to know of the type of white wine would you recommend? We’re really not wine drinkers, but My boyfriend and I are up to trying new dishes and I came across yours that looks delicious and from the 5 star reviews, it has to be.

I have frozen spinach. What adjustments do I need to make?

I would only use about 1/3 cup of the frozen spinach in place of the 2 handfuls of fresh. The frozen spinach will most likely turn your cream sauce green, but it should still taste great. 🙂

Hey – this turned out well! The spinach was in smaller pieces, and it didn’t turn the sauce green! I made with chicken tenders and served over a bed of penne. I took a picture of it and saved it to pinterest. I have 3 picky little ones (7, 3 and 1) and a picky 40 yr old LOL. (They get it from their dad.) We all loved it! Thanks for sharing!

I can’t get a clear answer on whether heavy cream and heavy whipping cream are the same or different everything online tells you something different can anyone clarify the only thing we can find in our area due to stocking being low from everything happening is heavy whipping cream. will that work? Sorry I didn’t get to this sooner, we were out of town camping all weekend. Heavy cream or heavy whipping cream will both work. The difference is in their fat content, both of which are plenty for this recipe. Hope that helps!

Not a dumb question! They are essentially the same thing. You’ll just want to use a heavy cream that has at least 36% milk fat.

Hey Deb! I took a look at the ingredients list and the squeeze of lemon juice was calculated wrong, so that’s where the higher carb count was coming from. I’ve adjusted it now and it’s more accurate. Apparently there are carbs in garlic, heavy cream and spinach… who knew?! So that’s where the majority of the carbs are coming from for the rest of the recipe. 🙂

Hi Tiffany, That’s awesome that you are trying to save time with freezer meals! However, this recipe goes together so quickly that thawing time would be longer than cooking time. That said, if you want to try freezing, you could sear the chicken breasts, wrap well and pop them in the freezer. When you are ready to continue, thaw them and continue with the cooking instructions. Another time saver would be to pre-measure ingredients so they are handy when needed. Hope this helps!
