Instructions

  • Place cream cheese in your mixing bowl and beat on medium high speed for 3 minutes, or until it becomes light and whipped.
  • Bring speed down to medium and add the sour cream and vanilla, mix until incorporated. Slowly add the powdered sugar and cake mix to the bowl and mix until combined. Scrape the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula and then gently fold in the sprinkles.
  • Serve cold with graham crackers, pretzels, or fresh fruit slices. Enjoy!
Notes
*place the cake mix powder in a microwave safe dish and cook in the microwave for 1 minute, stir and cook an additional 30 seconds. This is heat-treating the flour, making sure any potential bacteria is killed. Let the cake mix cool before adding to the rest of the recipe.

  1. I would love to try this with chocolate cake mix. What do you think?
And do you think cutting this in half and using a Jiffy Yellow Cake mix would work?

    1. Hi Clare! I had the same thought about chocolate cake mix – maybe with chocolate chips? I’m a bit of a chocoholic, so I’ll be trying it out at least! Not sure if you made this yet, but it wasn’t a real huge batch when I just made it. Perfect size for parties at least. Although it might have been that I liked the dip so much and couldn’t imagine it being smaller. Ha! If you try another mix with the recipe and like it, you’ll have to share. 🙂

  2. Hi. Tastes great. However, how did you get the sprinkles to stay firm? Mine melted after the first stir and changed the mix into a purplish color (I used red and green for Christmas). Thanks 🙂

    1. I was going to ask how to keep the sprinkles from running as well – the picture here looks beautiful and mine came out rather purple because the sprinkles color ran right away. Still tastes good, but not as appetizing looking… any ideas? I used Better Crocker sprinkles.

    1. I would think it can serve at least 10 people. That’s with them getting a generous portion. 🙂

  3. Love it! What a great idea. I came across your recipe on Pinterest and bookmarked it for later. Well tonight was later! 🙂 It brought back memories or when my mom used to put Dunkaroos in my lunch box. Thanks so much for sharing this with us! 🙂

  4. Hi there everyone, it’s my first pay a quick visit at this website, and piece of writing is in fact fruitful for me, keep up posting
    these content.

  5. Hey there! I made this and it went down a treat but I think I did it a bit wrong, instead of it being light and fluffy, it was more liquidy, how would you suggest thickening it up?

    1. Hi Steven, I’m not sure how it was more on the liquid side, maybe your sour cream was a little runny? If that happens again, you can try adding more powdered sugar to stiffen it up. Hope that helps! Thanks! 🙂

  6. At this time it sounds like Movable Type is the best
blogging platform out there right now. (from what I’ve read) Is that what you are using on your
    blog?

  7. I came across this posting on Pinterest and had to immediately repin it. After following it to your blog I have now added your blog to my bookmark bar. This is a great blog. I can’t wait to go through it more to look at more of your recipes! I also can’t wait to find an excuse to make this. Would it be terrible if I just made it for myself? 🙂

Also just out of curiosity, do you think you could cut the sour cream with Greek yogurt or do you think that would make it taste awful?

    1. Awesome, thanks Andrea! Comments like these seriously make my day! 🙂

And yes, totally legit to make it for yourself… hehe, never hurts to spoil yourself once in a while. As for the sour cream, substituting with Greek Yogurt could definitely work, it probably wont taste exactly the same, but still really good. I use Greek Yogurt to sub for sour cream a lot, and it usually works with great success.

  8. Excellent website. Plenty of useful info here. I’m sending it to several pals ans also sharing in delicious. And obviously, thanks to your sweat!

  9. It looks like you have attracted a pretty good following these days.
    I’m delighted for you!

  10. I love cheesecake and this sounds delicious. I have a similar recipe, but use the Kroger brand graham cracker stix for dipping.

  11. So happy to find this! I was looking for one more snack for my son’s birthday party. It’s “duck dynasty” theme though so we will be leaving out the colorful sprinkles and drizzling some Carmel on top.
    🙂

  12. I still need to try this one!!! I already know I’m going to be addicted to it!

  13. I’m going to make this for a little girls’ sleepover that we’re hosting tomorrow. It looks amazing! I just hope my Hubby doesn’t try to to eat it all! (He will) 🙂

    1. Hi Olivia, you can definitely make it a day before and store it in the fridge. I would let it sit on the counter for at least 20-30 minutes before serving since the cream cheese could get hard in the fridge. It could last up to a week in the fridge. 🙂

  14. This is SO good! I just made it for a party tonight. The only thing I had to change was add a little milk to make it just a bit thinner. The flavor was perfect! Thanks so much. 🙂

    1. Tonya, my husband got them for me last year for Mother’s Day! (He got them at Walmart) I believe they came in a set of four, and are called parfait dishes. 🙂

  15. Will definitely try this! Do you know if it’s safe to eat powdered cake mix though? I’ve never tried or used it in this way so I was just wondering. Thanks!

    1. Totally safe! It’s just a combination of flour, sugar, and other basic ingredients like baking powder, salt, etc. What you would want to be cautious of is a recipe that uses raw eggs. This recipe does not use any raw eggs, so you are all good! 🙂

  16. This may sound dumb, or I could be having a moment… so for the cake mix, do I just scoop out the dry mix or do I make it into the batter first?

TIA!! Can’t wait to try cheese cake is my favorite too 🙂

    1. No question is dumb! It would just be the powdered mix for this recipe. I keep a small container of it for fun recipes like this, that way I don’t waste any. 🙂 Hope you enjoy it!

  17. It’s my week to bring a “treat” to the office, so I am grateful I came across this site. Do you know how many the recipe serves as is?

    1. I was wondering the same thing, I tried to picture how much it’d make based on the ingredients, and I think I’m going to double it. bringing it to a bbq

    1. Hi Tiffany! Yes, that could definitely work! It’s also great with apple slices too! 🙂

  18. Perfect idea! But since I live in Denmark, the ingredients won’t be precisely the same, so some questions: could I use creme-fraiche instead of sour cream? And the cake mix… Any specifik one? Luckily I buy vanilla extract when in the States, but seeing as luggage space is limited, and I’m only there once a year, the rest I’ll have to find here… But am so making this, I love cheesecake, but hate all the prep;)

    1. Hi Sarah, the sour cream is perfect for giving it that cheesecake tang. While creme fraiche is a similar consistency, it probably won’t give you the tang you are after. That being said, it could still work, just won’t be exactly the same taste as with sour cream. I went with a white cake mix, but you can use a funfetti or yellow cake mix too. Let me know how it turns out with the creme fraiche if you still make it. 🙂

  19. Going out this morning to get stuff for my son’s birthday party tomorrow. Might have to throw the ingredients for this on my list. I think the kids would love it. Thanks :-). Very happy I found your recipes. I have spent the last hour looking at all of your stuff. Should be doing other things, but this is much more fun.

  20. I love finding new ways to use funfetti/cake batter! I just looked at the Oreo cake batter blondies too and can’t decide what to try first! I’m so glad I found your blog!

  21. Your photography is incredible, and your food all sound so delicious. I am definitely subscribing to your newsletter!

  22. I love cake batter ANYTHING! Looks delicious 🙂 Even better when I have all the ingredients already in my kitchen

  23. Cake batter/funfetti is one of my favorite things, so to combine it with teh creaminess of cheesecake is right up my alley.

    1. Very cute presentation, besides being yummy
…I can see it with those little pink graham cookies with sprinkles, and maybe some baby colored marshmallows-

  24. Wow! I ADORE cheesecake. really, like, any kind. really. And this is simply genius! I feel I’d have to take no more than 5 bites and then sadly walk away from the bowl. It’s almost Friday! 🙂
