Banana Split Topping Recipes

Today is a special day.

It’s my husband’s birthday!

But more importantly… that means- only 4 more weeks until my birthday!!

Banana Split Toppings

On your birthday in our house you get your choice of dinner and dessert. My husband has chosen Taco Pizza for dinner followed by his all time favorite dessert – Banana Split.

Great combination. (??)

A banana split is serious business {according to my husband}.

Banana Split Toppings

It starts off with a full banana, split right down the center and opened up to accommodate 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream. Each scoop is covered in a classic sauce topping in the order of pineapple, hot fudge, and strawberry.

The banana split toppings are a snap to make.

You could even package the trio in some cute mason jars and give them as gifts along with a few bananas.

Totally adorbs!

Banana Split Toppings

After you scoop on the sauce toppings, add a dollop of whip cream, a sprinkle of chopped nuts, and of course a cherry!

My husband never eats the cherry, so I always snag it from him.

This is a classic, and you can’t go wrong with that.

You’ll love how simple and easy it is to make these three sauces.

It’s sure to impress.

Happy Birthday to my husband… my best friend, soul mate, and taste tester!! I love you!!

Ingredients

Pineapple Sauce

  • 2 cups of canned, crushed pineapple
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp corn starch

Strawberry Sauce

  • 1 lb. fresh strawberries, hulled and roughly chopped
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp corn starch

Hot Fudge Sauce

  • 4 oz. semi sweet chocolate pieces
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2/3 cups sugar
  • 2/3 cups evaporated milk

Instructions

For the Pineapple Sauce:

  1. In a small sauce pan add the crushed pineapple (including the juices), sugar, and cornstarch. Heat it over medium heat until it starts to get bubbly and thicken, stirring frequently. Cook for 2 more minutes, continuing to stir, then remove from heat.
  2. Pour into glass mason jars, cover and let cool for at least 1 hour.

For the Strawberry Sauce:

  1. Combine the strawberries and sugar in a medium sized saucepan over medium heat. Stir, and use a potato masher to break down strawberries to your desired consistency.
  2. Add the cornstarch and continue stirring frequently until the mixture bubbles and thickens. Continue cooking for 2 minutes, then remove from heat and pour into mason jars. Cover and let cool for at least 1 hour.

For the Hot Fudge Sauce:

  1. In a small but heavy saucepan melt the chocolate and butter. Add the sugar, and gradually stir in the evaporated milk. Bring the chocolate mixture to a boil, then reduce heat. Boil gently over low heat for 8 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove the pan from heat, cool slightly. Serve warm.

I love the paper dish that the banana split is in – may I have your resource? I am doing a neon pool party for my 14 year old daughter who wants nothing else but a banana split bar. Thanks

    1. I found mine at WalMart in the cake decorating isle. They are made by Wilton. I would check a craft store too. Hope that helps, and happy birthday to your daughter!
